If that is the case why would anyone buy it over the 450?

Why did Ballard sleeve down some of their 450’s to 400’s ?

Why do does Chris Hollis run a detuned engine in his 450 ?

Why do major race teams as one of their setups calm the power delivery out in a 450 ?

Why are FIM looking to get rid of the 450cc class and have a 350 four stroke class ?

Why was Ben Grabhams 2008 Finke winning Honda run a stock engine bar for a vortex, rejet and exhaust system ?

How is it in the motocross desnations 2008 in the heat when the 450’s raced in the same race as the 250’s Ryan Villopoto beat the open class bikes on a 250, on an out door track ?

Because the bike is easier to ride faster for longer and in testing they are quicker for longer its a fact. And if the guns cant use all the bike all the time how are us wood ducks going to do it?

My StoneKing is still going strong. I cant believe the small amount of wear for so much riding.

Yeah they last forever, but wait till you put a a different tyre on and realise how much traction you have been missing out on  I used to run them they dont wear for sure, ah the search for both :P

well I am impressed. The VE33 is one good tyre. Both of the D bikes were fitted with them prior to the Nundle ride.

On Kylies bike I fiited a 110/100×18 on mine it was a 5.8×18.

Since having the 450 this is the third tyre that I have had on it, the first being a 1/2 worn Bridgestone ED16 and the second was the retread. So basically I have never had full traction on this bike.

Both of us were more than happy with the VE33 and I will definitely be buying another one when this one wears out.

    RATING 10/10

Well done Dan, nice write up, so is it a different bike with traction :P I am itching to have a go at my IRC because they look like such a good tyre, and if they wear OK they are only just over $20 bucks more than the other tyre you tried on our last ride. See the rim protector, its a good looking thing

Am looking forward to next weekend even more now after reading this :P

Last thing, if you go for a cheaper type like the Kingchrome, don’t unwind them all the way out, leave some slight tension on them as I have heard (and seen) them dismantle themselves to a point of no return (then the’re RS).

I have heard of that happening, the only problem I am told by the guy that does the yearly company paid calibrations on all our wrenches, if you leave tension on the spring in the wrench, the spring looses tension and becomes less accurate.

Just dont wind it right off and dont leave tension on it

Looks ok AB, king chrome stuff is pretty good stuff and is top quality weekend warrior stuff.

The only problem with those head hinge style tension wrenches is when you are doing very small torques it can be hard to feel the wrench click of and you can over tension the bolt / nut you are trying not to over tension

I have snap on tension wrenches that work the same was and am happy with them but for fine low torque work I use a 1/4 drive Warren & Brown Deflecting Beam Torque Wrench one that the pin pops out to be sure

Sounds great AB, and you cant beat a shed bike service bonding session, and taking your bike out after the repair will be very satisfying I know after a sump plug repair

Sorry I cant make it I will be giving the NX a run out around the back for Hampton checking out a trail for Sunday morning the following weekend ;)

Tracy the TTR230 will handle the grip heaters all day no problem. They only draw low current and are wired if you follow the instructions from the lighting circuit. They can also be wired of the battery, no worry it will work fine now Champo has looked after himself and the NX has a set tell him to get you a set

Great stuff guys, it’s years since I changed a bike tyre and you’ve brought back many not-so-fond memories ;) Love the stand, but isn’t it a little heavy to carry with you in the bush?

If I may add some hints:

    1. Keep a length of split heater hose to cover up the sprocket teeth to protect a wayward fist or knee.

    2. If you have trouble getting the last of the bead over the rim on refit, try clamping the sidewalls of tyre together opposite the section you are working on(not too tight). I use those ‘Quick-Grip’ woodworking bar clamps, but a g-cramp and a couple of strips of timber will do. This should help the far side of the tyre feed up into the centre of the rim (i.e. tyre is now off centre to the rim) and give you valuable extra slack toward the last section of bead.

    3. The clamps are also handy to unseat a bead.

Hey isnt all that crap a bit heavy to carry into the bush  as you said :P

You shouldnt really need all that stuff but, as Dan’s learnt he should have had Eagle ride that tyre flat for the last block home that would have fixed the bead

The zone is a funny thing, you cant find it, you have to let it come to you, I see people go like maniacs of the trailer getting arm pump, over shooting corners and just trying to hard. You have to let a ride and the zone come to you, it will grasshopper but let it find you

Once down the high country I had what Crash and I call golden Saturday. Whats golden Saturday you ask? Well it was a day when I couldnt do a thing wrong, I ran with some better riders, diced with Ben Grabham (yeah he was on a XR250) but Paul Sindaberry wasnt or Hoffman. It was fantastic it was like I couldnt crash no matter what I did, and I completely destroyed a brand new IRC, it had every centre ripped from it or snapped of, and 90% of the ones on both side of the centre row. Its never happened since, please fiddy god let it happen again :)
